Scent Dispensing Mechanism Inside an FFP3Â Mask
This project was a client based project at The Imagination Factory. I designed the scent dispensing mechanism within the mask and the mask itself. The scent mechanism uses a piezo electric disk to vaporise controlled amounts of essential oils into the mask to improve mental wellbeing of medical professionals. The mechanism is made up of two individual scent capsules which slot into place inside the mask and can be controlled by two buttons on the nose.
Each capsule contains a wick inside glass. Each capsule has a different coloured sticker for each different essential oil smell.
A particulate sensor was used with an arduino to test the density of different different amounts of spray. It analysed how much scent was in the mask with different durations of spray. This way the optimal spray duration could be set.
A few variations of the mask were made. Multiple scent capsuls were also made.
A section model was made to show the insides of the mask. A large outlet and two inlets and two scent capsules.
A demonstrator model was made to show two scent capsules working outside of the mask.
The mask was modular with a front grill that can be taken out and different colour fabrics wrapped around it.
The capsules use a piezo electric disk with a wick to dispense the scent.
the mask seal was surface modelled in CAD and tested on different size faces. They were 3D printed and tried out. Trial and error was used to get the perfect seal.
The final CAD was 3D printed using flexible resin.
The electronics uses an oscillating circuit and piezo electric disks to release essential oils as a fine mist.
The scent capsule connects into the mask with a holder and pogo pins.
Due to the requirement being an FFP3 mask it needed a secure outlet and inlet valve.
